Tournament of Roses

by Jason

The Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California is a long yearly tradition celebrating the new year. The 5 1/2 mile parade route features rose covered floats, marching bands, and horses. Seeing the parade in person is an absolute treat. The 2026 parade theme is “The Magic in Teamwork” and features the Grand Marshall Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

Volunteers have been getting the floats ready for January 1st, the 137th parade. It is amazing how many people are involved in helping to get everything done in time for New Year’s Day. No one can do it alone. Moses’ father in law Jethro says to Moses judging the people alone will wear him and the people out (Exodus 18:17-18). Moses listens and follows the advice of Jethro appointing leaders over the people (Exodus 18:25-26).

Rain is forecast on this New Year’s Day in Pasadena, but the parade will go on. The Rose Bowl football game will be the Alabama Crimson Tide facing the Indiana Hoosiers (1:00 PM Pacific Time). Eleven men on each side will have to play well as a team to advance in the College Football Playoff.
